Annemaree O’Brien (BA, MEd, PhD) is an Honorary Fellow in Language and Literacy Education, Faculty of Education, the University of Melbourne, where she taught and coordinated language and literacy education subjects (primary and secondary) in the Master of Teaching and Master of Education courses. She has extensive experience in language and literacy education as an academic, teacher, consultant, curriculum writer and project manager.
Her research experience and interests include literacy pedagogy, emergent literacies and the impact of digital communication technologies on current literacy practices, with a focus on functional social semiotics for teaching reading and writing multimodal texts. Previously, Annemaree was the Education Projects Manager for the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, Screen Literacy Coordinator for the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, a senior regional English curriculum consultant, and taught in five diverse Victorian primary schools. She has been an 美姬社区member for many years, a member of the Victorian State Council for several years, and now the Melbourne Local Council. She has presented at many 美姬社区state and local conferences.
