Narelle Daffurn taught for 21 years as a classroom teacher, before moving into leadership positions, including work as a Literacy Coach, Learning Support teacher (P-7), and Acting Head of Curriculum. Her initial teacher training was in Primary/Pre-school education in the days before Early Childhood Education degrees. She taught in Primary education, mostly in Years 1 and 2, looping classes from Year 1 to 2 on several occasions. She taught internationally in three different countries in the Middle East, where her training in TESOL was put to good use. Leaving Primary School teaching, Narelle was fortunate to work on contract in initial teacher education as a course coordinator, lecturer, and tutor for three years fulltime before moving on to sessional academic work at three different universities. Narelle has a Master degree in Learning Support with a specialisation in reading and literacy difficulties. Her PhD research focused on teacher identification of students’ multimodal communication and negotiation of identity in a diverse early years setting. Narelle has been an 美姬社区member since December 2009, and the 美姬社区Meanjin (Brisbane+) Secretary since 2017. She was the Secretary to the Conference Committee, and the Sponsorship Committee Co-chair for the 2021 AATE/美姬社区National Conference. In 2021, Narelle was elected as the State Director for Queensland. In 2024, Narelle took on the role of Digital Media Coordinator, and joined the 美姬社区National Council Executive.
