Hermione Paddle has been teaching for fifteen years. Working in public schools in Melbourne and an international school in Munich, Hermione has taught English and humanities to middle and senior school students. She has worked as head of department for Theory of Knowledge in the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Assistant Middle Years Curriculum Coordinator. Her Masters in Literacy from The University of Melbourne explored state and federal literacy policies in Australia, using critical discourse analysis as a framework to explore deficit discourses around particular learners. Her current PhD at University College London is exploring teachers experiences of interdisciplinary learning in secondary schools, using Bernstein’s curriculum framework as a theoretical lens to explore forms of integrated curriculum. She is exploring the way that interdisciplinary learning often challenges the compartmentalised nature of secondary schools and how such cross-curricular programs often promote real-world learning and language development. Her research interests include curriculum, assessment, adolescent literacy development, metaphor and language and teacher agency.
She currently works for the IB in curriculum develop and as an online facilitator. She is also a member of the editorial team for Curriculum in Professional Practice, a part of The Curriculum Journal (British Educational Research Association). Hermione lives and works in Munich with her partner and two children.
